Money Magazine rates the following 5 cities as the best places to live in the US, in 2006 (I've lived in or near 2 of the 5, and visited 2 of the others):
1) Colorado Springs, CO
2) Austin, TX
3) Mesa, AZ
4) Raleigh, NC
5) San Diego, CA
Since I don't enjoy the desert in the summer, Mesa wasn't my cup of tea, but I've lived a long time in the Raleigh area and love it (big city things to do, but feels like living in a small town). Loved visiting both Austin and San Diego, but I like kind of funky towns with lots of good clubs (San Diego) and music (Austin).
I've been to three of the cities in the 6-10 top cities as well:
6) Virginia Beach, VA
7) Omaha, NE
8) Columbus, OH
9) Wichita, KS
10) New York, NC
I thought Virginia Beach was a fun beach city and of course nothing beats the big apple for cultural variety! I thought Columbus was kind of dull, and since I'm from the midwest, never went to Omaha or Witchita (you never bother to visit your own backyard).
Good luck!

Berkeley, California. It's in the Sf bay area. Great people . There's a hands on children's museum here. Berkeley bowl has the cheapest and freshest produce of any where. BART (like subway) and buses. Lot's to do here, and access to other neighboring cities. Cultural diversity . Good schools. I was born and raised here and I love it. I'm Bi-racial. Used to be Jewish now Muslim. Wear a head scarf. Never had a problem with negative treatment in my life. There's room for everyone .Come here !
