President Reagan gave amnesty to aliens in the 1980's. Those who were in the country for several years were legal status. This was sold to the public as a one-time solution. Apparently it is a once every 20 year solution. It is now proposed that we once again allow long term criminal alien residents to be given legal status with citizenship and voting rights to follow.
