We think our bug problem is in our dishwasher. We've tried exterminators, but still can't seem to get rid of them. How do we do it?

Hi,
I had a problem with cockroaches in my dishwasher. How they got in there is still a mystery.

How I got rid of them was I pull the dishwasher out. Washed all around it. Then I sprayed a can on surface spay all around the side, back and underneath the dishwasher.

Then before I pushed the dishwasher back into place I sprayed the floor, back wall and the side panels.

It worked! so go and give your dishwasher a good spray.

You have to pull the dishwasher out and seal up any holes or entryways the bugs are using to get it the house. Believe me when I tell you that the bugs are not coming from the dishwasher but are entering the house from another area. You just happen to see them coming out from that area. All the openings in the house need to be sealed off. All plumbing and electrical lines usually have alot of a space around them that allow bugs and small rodents to enter. Remember also that bugs need moisture to survive so be sure your dish washer is not leaking.
IF for some weird reason the bugs are inside the dishwasher then they are coming up through the drain which means there is a serious break in your sewer line which means forget the exterminator and call a professional plumber with a fiber optics camera setup.

wash them in super hot water with roach killer in the powder saction. your exterm must be an idiot to not know how to get rid of em. also, if there are so many, all at that same place...and keep going back there, there's prolly a nest and that's why. Get a new exterminator before they spread. Also, you can try Raid MAX bombs--Max is the best & whatcha do is read the directions. Just get 1 bomb. Open the diswasher. Place the bomb a few feet away and let 'er rip. Run for cover! After it's ok to go back, you're gonna have to use the best cycle & dishwashing stuff to clean it out of the poison several times. THIS will work. Good luck.

Are the bugs (depending what type they are) INSIDE your dishwasher or coming from around it... Does your Dishwasher even work or is it used for storage? If it works, and theree are still bugs in it, maybe they think it is a shower and need to get cleaned, no but seriously, if ther are bugs INSIDE of your dishwasher, make sure that the drain is clear and that there's no food sitting there rotting away, if there is remove it. If there was rotting food in there, then you'll need to totally clean your dishwasher with a bleach water solution. 60% bleach 40% water (make sure room is ventilated and don't breathe in the fumes, keep small children out of kitchen until you are finished, run a cycle using hot water/pots and pans/heat dry, then repeat the cycle to clear out any residual bleach. When the dishwasher is left with dirty dishes in it it is best to lock the door 9as if you are going to start a load) this will keep any future bug from entering the machine.

For bugs to get into your dishwasher is nearly impossible. They would have to enter thought the door. If the door is kept closed it is water tight so they couldn't get in that way. The drain is hooked into the drain that is under your sink. The only way bugs could get in there if you keep the door closed is by crawling down the sink and entering the dishwasher drain. Put a plug in both sides of the sink then there is no possible way for them to enter. Are you sure you are keeping the door closed and latched? That's the best way for them to enter. They are looking for food left in the dishwasher so make sure it is closed and latched

I think your wrong. there are no bugs in the dishwasher. They may be coming in near there but they can't get in if the door is closed. Call your exterminator again and tell him he didn't get the job done and make him come back and do it right this time.

Please be carefully what you put down the drain,, we all will be drinking that water one day again. Perhaps it is time to pull the dishwasher out of it's space and see if there is a cracked drainpipe or some thing like that where the bugs are able to get in. You will have to seal this hole to stop those little critters from getting inside the dishwasher. I bet it is you drain that is providing assess for those little guys. good luck,, and I hope you didn't find the farting answer offensive.. I actually thought it was kind of funny. In times like these a little humour is not a bad thing.

I'm not a exterminator specialist but there are a few basic rules in controling bugs.
1. Bugs love crumbs and any food they can get to. Get into the habit of washing your counter with soap and water, wash your cutting board, wash you sink and include cleaning the drain screen.
2. Leaving soiled dishes in your dishwasher until you have a full load saves on water but does become a wonder place for bugs to find food particals. Pre-wash your dishes before putting them in the dish washer to sit and wait.
3. Most people do not lock down their dish washer door until they have a load ready to wash. Maybe sealing the door by locking it would keep bugs out.
4. If it were me. I would start by spraying the heck out of my dish washer. Let it set for a day or two. Then run a couple of loads with NO dishes so you clean out the spray from the interior. I'de use HOT water for washing my dishes and not air drying if your house has a bug problem.

Hope some of this helps !!!

If it were me, I would get a bunch of poisonous bait that is for that kind of bug and set them in the dishwasher when you aren't using it. Hopefully, the bugs will take the bait back to their nest and feed it to the rest of them and end your problem. Also, if you don't do this already, try not to put the dishes in there with pieces of food on them. It may be that the food rinses off the dishes during the cycles and the bugs are feeding off the food that is left in the pipes. Hope this helps and good luck!!!

The bugs are probably actually behind the unit remove it from the cabinet spray and take the unit outdoors to spray the back. If the insulation seems chewed or black spotted the infestation is in the insulate and you need to replace it. Check the tubes for secure connection as well and once everything is secure and the area it sits in is clean and decontaminated, lay a line of boric acid and replace the unit. That should fix the problem. Good Luck!

I need a little more info. What did the exterminators use, liquids or bait?? What state do you live in? Do you live in an apartment building? Are we talking German roaches? Do you see more during night than the day? Are they in other places other than your dishwasher??

Some exterminators don't 'care' about getting rid of your roaches. They want your money and will keep coming back giving you excuses as to why they aren't gone. If they just spray and you're dealing with german roaches, that's a no no.

Do you have a 'Do It Yourself' Pest Control store in your area? You need a good roach bait. In the past I've used Maxforce Roach gel or Pre-Empt. I'm not sure what's available for the public to purchase. I've also used PT565 in cracks and crevices. This really gets things stirred up!!!

German roaches tend to hide in dark warm places and they could be hiding between the countertop and your dishwasher. For this the PT565 would work great and add a little bait a day later. Go through your cubards and disgard any boxes they may be harvesting in.

You'll need to keep applying bait - SMALL amounts in inconspicuous places - for at least a couple months. Don't give them places to hide, like stacked up paper or plastic sacks under the counter or stacks of papers.

Oh, you may need to put some bait around your appliances as well. I've even seen loads of them in telephones!!

DO NOT USE BLEACH!!! Roaches don't care about bleach and you can't use bleach around pesticides because it will neutralize the chemicals put down for the roaches.
