Okay, just to clear things up....I just want to know what the accaptance level is between a Smoker and an Obese person (I am on the large side but not a smoker). Because neither trait or habit is acceptable in todays society, I would like to know what is looked down upon more, being a smoker or being fat.

I had to think about this question for awhile before answering, because there are so may variables.

Smoking stinks, and the smell hangs in a haze around the smoker, and is also on their breath. But, the smell doesn't really bother me and I get used to it.

I don't have anything against overweight people, either. There are so many reasons for people being overweight that I can't 'judge' them, but even if it's just because they waaay overeat, I go back to something my saint of a mother said years ago that's always stuck with me. She said, "It must be so terrible to just feel so hungry all the time.". Yes, it really must be.

So, I have to think about what the seating circumstances are.
I'm fortunate enough to get to travel some, and I've been on some horribly long plane flights. I'm slim, but very long-legged, so I'm usually not very comfortable, anyway. A 'severely obese' person sitting next to me on a plane is terrible. I'm not nearly as uncomfortable as they are, mind you, but it just makes it even worse. So, in that circumstance, I'll take the smoker.

If I'm riding on a bus, for a short trip across town, I've no problem with the obese person. Even if I'm somewhat uncomfortable, it's not forever. 14 hour plane rides make you quite tolerant of a 45 minute bus ride. So, if the smoker were allowed to smoke on that bus, I'd probably opt for the obese person.

If we're somewhere where there's ample room, then I don't care either way. Keep in mind that the plane scenario answer is because of the 'SEVERELY obese' caveat. Otherwise, I really don't care in that circumstance, either. I'd opt for the person with the best personality, 'cause we're going to spending a LOT of time together.

I really do my best to be tolerant and understanding of everyone.

Live and let live.

Let's try and remember that, in an increasing number of public places across the country, smoking has been banned. The smoker sitting next to you may not be able to light up. Though, for all you blowhards that cry and carry on about secondhand smoke, that's a dam*ed shame.

As for sitting next to an obese person: well, that depends on the type of seating. If sitting next to the obese person doesn't mean they're on top of you, what's the problem?

Either group has the potential to carry an unpleasant odor. Even as a smoker, I've found myself turned off by the smell of stale cigarette smoke on other smokers. On the other hand, the natural body odor of someone who is nearly always sweating and such is no more attractive than the stale cigarette smoke.

Get over it, and try to have a little patience, compassion and courtesy. You're sitting next to them, not marrying them.

Next to a smoker because I smoke, otherwise the severly obese person would be VERY uncomfortable sitting next to me don't you think?

I'd rather sit next to an obese person cause when you get up you're fine, but if you sit next to a smoker you smell like smoke the rest of the day!

I would rather sit next to an obese any day because I find most of them easier to talk to than a skinny person who thinks they are so much better than anyone else. Also I wouldn't like sitting to a smoker because it could affect my allergies.

If the person is smoking while I'm sitting, I'd sit next to the obese person. I have a friend who is overweight, and a friend who is obese, and neither of them can really help it. That smoker, on the other hand, chose to light that cigarette.

Sit next to an obese person. Hate the smell of smoke and the smell of the smoker.

people are people, if we prejudge the way we do now we are just breeding a new generation of hate. there can never be peace like htis. However, it is human nature, judging is our self-defense mechanism, so i'd say the "obese" person because smoking can kill you, and an obese person can't. Well wait, an obese person could kill you, with a switchblade or something. I don't much like sitting next to people. I think i'd stand. not because i don't like fat people or smokers, i don't like being too close to people in general. It doesn't matter if you're fat or smoke, if they wanna kill you then they wanna kill you.

If the smoker is a young attractive girl....even if she smokes, I would rather sit next to her. If the smoker is a 40 year old man named Ed, with a wifebeater shirt and a cowboy hat on, I'd rather sit by the obese person...if he is Jack Black.

Does that answer your question?
