8 answers

y-5 = -2(x+5)^2
= -2(x+5)(x+5)
= -2(x^2+5x+5x+25)
= -2(x^2+10x+25)
= -2x^2-20x-50
y = -2x^2-20x-45

Ok, let's get this under control. First add 5 to both sides, so y = -2x (x =5) squared plus 5. Ignoring the fact that the equation itself gives you the answer, let's proceed, since we know that you can't get a solution for two variables out of one equation. In this case, of course, you have only one variable, but whattheheck

So you have y = 2x squared plus 20x + 5 = zero
But of course x IS 5.

So 2x squared plus 21x = zero

But that won't work as x has to be an even number.

And it can't be, since we already know it is 5.

This is a badly screwed up equation.

y-5=-2(x+5)^2<---(x+5)(x+5)
y-5=-2(x^2+10x+25)<---distribute the -2, and add 5 to the product
y=-2x^2-20x-45

y - 5 = -2(x + 5)^2
y - 5 = -2 (x^2 + 10x + 25)
y - 5 = -2x^2 - 20x - 50
y = -2x^2 - 20x -45
