Many people think Lenore is virginia Clemm But it can't be simply because if Poe was refering to Virginia he might have used the name Annabel Lee such as he did before Lenore came out. Lenore is the most suspicious of Poe's work because it is the only name that repeats in his work.

many people know the raven as having Lenore in it. Not many people know of the lesser popular poem called Lenore That is where her name repeats

Poe was born elsewhere but raised in Virginia from 1809 - 1849...I too believe it was someone from his past as many did die at a young age in those days. It fits with his literary "Romantisim" and he himself died young....

Now, I don't think this qualifies as a real answer but... Lenore is absolutely one of my favorite poems by EAP. And I find myself asking this same question.

No, I don't think it is Virginia becaus a)I don't believe Virginia was blonde b)I don't remember when he wrote "Lenore" but I don't think Virginia had died... But please, tell me if any of this is wrong.

Poe had a rather dark mind anyway, and being a poet, maybe the idea of Lenore came from one of his daily experiences. Maybe he saw this sick girl, or a funeral... And not to ask a question in my "answer" but, where does the character Lenore repeat in Poe's works?

I believe it was a cousin of his he was in love with, but who died young.
