Could you guy's answer it as you would to a fourth grader like say to the next biggest line the nto the next biggest line etc.

Here, look at this picture and compare it with your own ruler. Look for the tick mark with 1/4" and an arrow pointing to it. That's a quarter of an inch from the 0 point on the ruler.

Typically a ruler has the inches divided into 1/16 inch marks. The longest lines will be on the whole inch marks (where the whole numbers are), the second longest lines will be on the half-inch marks, and the next longest lines will be on the 1/4 inch marks. The shortest marks will be the 1/16 marks. Again, this is for your typical ruler; not all are made like this.

A quarter of an inch is simply half of a half an inch. So find the half-way marks for each inch, then look at half of the distance between there and the whole-inch marks.

its one forth of the inch it looks like this 1 i I i 1 the ones represent the inch the capitol I reps. the half inch mark and the lower case i 's rep. the 1/4 inch marks.
