It depends on what ipod you have, but first you want to toggle (turn off and turn on) the hold switch. If that doesnt help, then you are going to want to hold down the play/pause button, and the menu button at the same time, if that doesnt work (for other models) hold down the middle button and the play/pause buttons at the same time. Both times you want to hold those bottons for like 10-15 seconds just to make sure if that will work or not.
If your ipod is still on, just leave it frozen and on, once the battery drains out it will shut off.. then you will just plug it back in and it will be all good. (dont plug it in while its on frozen still though, because it'll just stay like that)

Go to www.apple.com and click on support.
My ipod froze and it tried and tried and tried everything. I tried reseting it like 5 times and then after that i gave it to my friend and he tried reseting it and it worked. Maybe if you keep trying every hour or so it will eventually work. It really sucks eh. I had problems with it within 2 weeks of buying it.
Good Luck

Yeah, I had the same thing happen which is why I won't ever buy another iPod. Let the battery drain, and then charge it and it should work fine. If not, contact Apple and send it for repairs.

Plug ur ipod into itunes. Then click the Restore button. It will ask this question and them say yes. Then your ipod should work. If not, call Apple or go to an Apple store

The middle and play button is to shut it off. Try pressing and holding the middle and menu buttons at once. That has always worked for me when it starts acting screwy.

After draining and recharging If your screen shows a sad face with a triangle thingy, try hitting it, crude but it works with my Ipod 4G.
Be prepared for LOTSA scratches.
