You may need to change your computer BIOS to boot from CD

First go into Bios and find the boot menu make sure it is set to boot from Floppy first(if you have a floppy drive) then your cd rom then your Hard drive.

Put your windows Cd in your cd drive and save and exit from Bios.

1. Start your computer from the Windows 98 CD-ROM. To do this, insert the Windows 98 CD-ROM into your CD drive or DVD drive, and then restart your computer.
2. When you see the "Press any key to boot from CD" message, press any key to start the computer from the Windows 98 CD-ROM.
3. At the Welcome to Setup screen, press ENTER to start Windows 98 Setup.
4. Read the End-User License Agreement, and then press F8.
5. Follow the instructions on the screen to select and format a partition where you want to install Windows 98.
6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete Windows 98 Setup.

You probably need a 98 start-up floppy disk. When you put it
in it should give you some options. Hit enter for Start Computer
With CD-ROM support. When it gets to a command prompt.
type in setup.exe and hit enter. It should take off then.
A 95 floppy will do also.
You can also go into your bios and change the way it boots
but you can also screw things up if you're not carefull.

You have to make sure you have a bootalbe cd, most win 98 cd's are not. If not you have to go to a computer with windows and make a bootable floppy, or make a bootable cd (with a program like nero). Boot up to ur cd or floppy (may have to change bios settings usually push del when starting up). You should be brought to a dos screen. You can then format your drive. IE. "format c:/" then you have to go to your install medium (cd) by typing "cd d:/" where d is the letter of your cd rom. then you should just be able to type "install".

Windows 98 CD is not bootable. You need to create a windows startup diskette, choose to "enable CD-ROM support". Change to your CD drive at the command prompt and type 'Setup'.

The first step is to take a Floppy Boot Disk, and format the harddrive, then insert the CD and install it. Problem solved.

You need to access the BIOS and change the boot device priority to boot from the CD first.

*IRT to those who claim that Win98 install disc is not bootable

Is this strictly win98 or both 98 and 98SE? My old win98SE install disc is bootable w/ no floppy.
