I'm assuming you ARE meaning Thermal Energy and NOT GEOthermal energy.

Geothermal Energy: Geothermal power is the use of geothermal heat to generate electricity. It is often referred to as a form of renewable energy, but because the heat at any location can eventually be depleted it is by definition not strictly renewable. Geothermal comes from the Greek words geo, meaning earth, and therme, meaning heat. Geothermal literally means "earth heat".

"Thermal energy" has no generally agreed definition and the term will not usually be found in most dictionaries of physics or science. In everyday usage, thermal energy may be regarded either as :
1. a synonym for thermodynamic energy (itself a synonym for internal energy) or as
2. a synonym for heat.

Thermal energy is really just another name for the random motion of a large number of particles. Just like a thrown baseball, particles in motion have a kinetic energy--the energy of motion. When you have a large number of particles, like air molecules, in a confined region (a box, perhaps) then they run into each other so much that they all end up having about the same kinetic energy. This mean, or average, kinetic energy is identified as "thermal" energy.

It is the conversion of energy from any form in to thermal energy. The radiation of lower frequencies from any source cause thermal energy.

Thermal energy (or heat) is the sum of atomic motion of a given substance. So for example hot water has faster and more mobile water moecules than cold water.
When something cools down to absolute zero (about -200something degrees Celcius) all atomar motion would stop and matter would collapse onto itself.
