I worked for Elektra/Ayslum/Nonesuch Records in West Hollywood back in the early 80's when they were located on the corner of La Cienga Blvd. and Sunset. I did have the opportunity to meet Freddie Mercury and his posse at a promo party for their new album and also spent time with them at a company picnic. I recall Linda Ronstadt was at that same picnic with Gerry Brown, then governor of California. Freddie was incredibly polite in his British sort of way...he could also loosen up and become quite boisterous and quite the "queen"...do you recall "Killer Queen"...
he partied hard as young people did back then and do now...the capacity of his voice was quite remarkable...I recall that he loved Perrier Water and Oreo cookies and we always had them in stock in the building...he was a very nice guy, you would have loved him...my conversations with him were brief...i was young and shy and star struck...i interacted with him at times when he would call to make sure his studio musicians were being paid...

Freddy Mercury, above all else, had an incredible voice. The man could sing classical as easy as he could sing rock. In many ways, to me, Queen epitomized the rock opera. Queen, and particularly Freddy Mercury, created rock that blew you away with classical sounds.
He wasn't just ahead of his time, he created a 'sound'!

He was one great singer and his showmanship was beyond compare. Queen, without Freddie Mercury would be like Rock without Roll!

Loved him. You know besides the bimbos we have to listen to on the radio today ( which I dont ) the music was great, funny and even serious BUT it was the love and performances he could give.
His voice was one in a million, when MOST people here it they know it!

He was an awesome singer. Also a openly gay man in a time when you just didn't do that sort of thing (be open about it). But you know what though? Nobody cared. THAT'S how good he was.
