A herd of horses neigh to communicate, For Example : A Wild herd of Mustangs has a lead stallion. His job is to lead protect the herd.

Before putting his head down to graze he already has mapped a clear exit plan it is not arbitrary. A particular neigh ( danger ) is communicated by one of the mares, a pack of wolves or MAN.

The Neighs like a network of communicatioin signaling danger is trans neighed to the stallion who recieves it and begins to run in and exit out of the canyon or whatever direction he has predecided before grazing and the whole herd follows his lead.
This observation research has been investigated by scientific teams determining that the horses neighs are to communicate with each other.
