Three friends are on a roadtrip, they stay at this hotel; the guy at the counter says "its 30 bucks for all of you"... the guys don't like the price but pay 10 bucks each. When they go to their rooms, the guy at the counter feels guilty and gives the bellboy 5 bucks as a discount. The bellboy goes with the guys and says "ok here, 1 buck for each of you and I'll keep 2 as the tip".

So each traveler spent 10 bucks minus 1 returned =9
9+9+9=27... plus the 2 bucks of the tip.. 29..

This is an old 1.

They pay 3*$10=$30 & back $3 for a net payment of $30-$3=$27

The manager receives $30-$5=$25. The bellhop keeps $2.

total net received is $25+$2=$27

Net payment of $27 = net received=$27.

You need to think of it as if you are the guy at the counter. You got 30 from your custumers and you gave 5 away. 2 went to the bellboy and 1 went back to each of the men. There is no missing dollar.

30 - 5 = 25
2 + 1 +1 +1 = 5
25 + 5 = 30

I'm not sure exactly what last dollar you're talking about.

$30 - $5 for the bellboy = $25 accounted for

The bellboy gives a total of $3 back. $25 + $3 = $28 accounted for.

So now we're at $28.

He keeps $2 for himself. $28 + $2 = all $30

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but I don't really know where the extra dollar is. :)

They paid nine dollars each = 27.

Of the 27 dollars, the bellboy kept 2, and the hotel kept 25

25+2= 27
