p/7 = 28

multiply both sides by 7

7p/7 = 28*7

Think of a number (p) such that when you divide it by 7 you get 28. When you have a fraction on one side of the equation, all you have to do is to multiply BOTH sides of the equation by whatever is in the denominator. So to solve this equation, we can multiply both sides by 7. That gives us 28 (7) = (7) (p/7).

... but then we can rearrange the right side and get (7/7)p = 1p ... so p is just equal to 28(7).

You don't like a denominator on one side of your equation, so get rid of it by multiplying both sides of the equation by the denominator. Then you will have a simple-to-solve equation.
