Dont get me wrong I feel it is crucial that we continue our education all throughout our life. But a degree really doesnt seem necessary as long as I dont stop learning(ofcourse I am ignoring the financial/career aspect of it).

I can always take classes at university of my choice if I feel I need more guidance or dicipline. Besides college is not the only place to find teachers. You can learn from almost anyone you meet on the street.
(and dont give me the old "qualifications" answer, I really dont hold any merit in qualifications)

Im really not interested in the fact that a degree will help me get a job. I already know this and dont need anyone to tell me. A career is not the only reason for education!

Also when I say you can learn from anyone on the street, Im not talking about "street smarts", even if that is true too.

You've answered your own question really. Why do people get degrees? To learn a field, gain experience, get knowlege and hopefully become marketable. They also use it as a backup. There are lots of opportunities available for people just because they have a degree. For a lot of companies it shows a certain type of discipline that they recognize. They know you spent 3, 4, 7 (in some cases) years of your life dedicated to completing a task.

If you're content in your situation financially and educationally and you've realized the importance of continued education in some form then maybe a college degree isnt' for you right now.

If you're any good at sports then you don't need college at all. Look at Kobe Bryand or LeBron James. They make more than any college professor with a PhD. Or look at all the computer software programming, and web page design companies. A lot of people that work there don't have a college degree in computer science but they do have the knowledge and skills needed.

Even if you're in college you should be striving to learn as much as possible from as many people as possible. You're right! You don't have to be in college to learn. And a college education is not always the best education.

A college curriculum tends to be more organized and broader than the education one might pick up here and there. And, as you mentioned, there is a question of jobs.

Most jobs require the piece of paper to get promoted.
