Washington, he put his life on the line to help create this country. He put his life on hold to be the first President. He set the standard for a new job, and despite no term limit, his self-imposed 2 terms were the standard for nearly 150 years. He was the first leader since the Roman Republic to voluntarily step down and hand power to a successor. Oh and he distilled whiskey (one of the major distillers of his day), how cool is that.

You can say what you want about all the others, but with Washington, they may not have been as great.

Ronald Reagan. He defeated Communism, He brought the economy back from double digit inflation, double digit unemployment and double digit interest rates. He revived the Patriotic feeling and made this country proud to be Americans again. He also had a great sense of humor.

Thomas Jefferson, any of the founding fathers, all of whom happen to belong to the modern day political party of.....drum roll...Libertarians! Not Republicans or Democrats! THEY were TRUE americans.

Speakeasy- you are a complete fool. Several of the founding fathers were either atheist or deist, and stressed religious TOLERANCE. They did not found America as a country with a set religion, they let the people choose. In fact, many early Americans came to America to escape the church.

Teddy Roosevelt. In my opinion. He did sooo much. Especially when in battle with the rough riders. But there are many presidents who did well. I wouldnt say that there is a greatest. They all contributed. Execpt some of them.

George Washington

He clearly understood the job of President and refused the offer to become King of the USA. He put the good of the nation before his own opportunity for power.

When the Bill of Rights was created, Washington was instructed by Congress to create a national day of prayer. He did so, officially creating our Thanksgiving holiday. Washington frequently reminded the nation that the President and the politicians are not their masters - God is. It is to God that one looks for guidance, not political servants.

To this day, we still celebrate that Day of Thanks to God, created by Congress and George Washington, to remind us.
