Hi!

Is it just for a living ... or is it for a proper life?

If it is for a proper life, what should we introduce into our schools to improve the lives of our children?

Thank you for considering this.
Peace & Love

I think the purpose of education should be to improve ourselves and to improve society. We should be learning how to get along with one another, how to help one another, how to help our environment. We should be learning how to enrich our lives with knowledge, how to foster a fair and just society, how to make life better for those less fortunate.

I think the current purpose is to maintain the status quo - to separate the meant-to-be-rich-and-powerful from the rest of the lot, pushing them on to succeed and keeping those tools and strategies from the masses, leaving them behind, struggling to succeed. The current purpose is to generate numbers and statistics for the higher ups to feel good about. With test scores and statistics, they can give orders to the everyman, feeling good about themselves and pretending to serve humanity so that no one will fight back.

But that's a rant for another topic. I hope I've helped!

Education, to me, is about developping oneself. Part of this is having a good place in the world, not only job-wise, but things like taking care of the environment. Another part is for proper thinking, to take our place in the world and help improve the world in some way, however small it may be.

Education is not only for a better future, it's a tool for one to understand the universe, to respect & preserve it. A tool to broaden one's mind, to appreciate peace, to appreciate lives. A tool to acknowledge humans are not super-human and there are things out there which are beyond our control and try to live side by side with nature without conflict. Tool for humans to be in harmony with one self, to appreciate what God has given us individually and to be grateful to have food on the table, be kept warm on a cold night, a roof over our head, a sound sleep and a family. It takes a lot not to join the rat race, to live the life of choice, to dress comfortably and pursue an interest instead of a career.

I think primarily to pass exams and provide employers with a benchmark. To learn how to be self-supporting, and a little extra so that you can help others out.

Yes, also to teach you how to problem-solve, how to think, how to check your sources, upgrade your priorities, review your ideas as an adult, and allow you to choose your battles and alter your direction in life.

For a better life? Philosophy should be taught. By that I mean several ways of thinking, not the popular local one that year.
