I am married so it isn't because I don't "have" anybody. I just never liked it since I was little.

It has always seemed like a "forced" expression of love rather than a true expression to me...

I love Feb 15 - all the chocolate goes on sale! Also married but we do celebrate it a bit. We get all the kids balloons and candies and stuffed animals. I used to worked in a restaurant so we never go out for dinner. Roses wilt, cards are a waste, and I am too picky on jewelry so I buy my own, and like I said, the chocolate is cheaper the day after so we don't do any of that. We usually get a baby sitter and have a night at home together alone. That is enough of a Valentines gift for us - We have 5 kids.

I'm with James B - as Kimballam said, it's good to "think of some people in your life who are not married or elderly or alone and send them a thoughtful or funny card. If you give joy to others it will come back to you, " but to have to have something on the calendar to prompt you to be thoughtful or kind or give joy to others seems very sad to me. We should be doing these kinds of things every day!

It's like all the other "artificial" days set up to give presents or pleasure to other people. I'd much rather get a gift on no particular day with a note saying "Thought of you when I saw this and knew you would love it, thanks for being such an awesome friend!" than an note implying "It's a certain day on the calendar so I knew I had to come up with something."

and then there's the holiday's roots in pagan worship and culture, which those who structure their lives according to God's loving instructions in the Bible will avoid like the plague, along with all the other pagan festivals that the world relishes, like Easter/Ishtar and X-mess/Saturnalia.

Have you ever heard that what you focus on expands? Try looking at Valentine's Day as a day of love, joy and fun. Do something nice for others and it will take on a whole new feeling. Think of some people in your life who are not married or elderly or alone and send them a thoughtful or funny card. If you give joy to others it will come back to you. Do yourself a favor, try it. I personally hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day filled with love and happiness from beginning to end. Smile, you are loved!

It is a useless holiday.

Love & romance for 1 day is a joke. Real love is always. Love isn't candy and flowers.

It's weird that everyone that was against V day was voted a thumbs down. The V day police are angry now.

For some reason it seems in America Valentines Day is such a big thing (what isn't in america though) here in Australia, i have not heard as much hoo haa as in the usa.

Hate it and have dumped men for wasting $50 bucks on some roses (what a waste). Can we please be more original. And what you're only going to show your love on one day? I don't celebrate it. But I will accept gifts all other 364 days of the year.

I don't like it too. All the popular kids get all the good stuff and i get nothing. I don't even have a boyfriend to make it worse.

I hate it, I hate the pressure it puts on us guys to have to do something "Special" for thier girl... Hey, guys should be doing special things for their women all during the year... we don't need an overcommercialized holiday where they jack the price of flowers and candy and all the good restaurants are packed months in advance.
