My laptop is 5 years old. Its time to let it rest peacefully. I want to buy a new one for game, multimedia, and surfing online. I prefer 15~17" screen, cpu(>=T5600), individual video card, 2GB ram, >=100GB hard drive. In this case, what choice do I have? how much? Thanks.

I just checked HP.com. If I build my own, 17", T7200, Nvidia 7600(512MB), 100GB hard drive, TV turner, webcam, its about $1700+. Is it strong enough to run 3D game(warcraft)? Any other cheaper deal?

Reviews and experience:
(1) IBM/Lenovo...sturdy, long-lasting, workhorse
(2) HP...second choice, also good

well, if you want a completely tricked-out computer, the only way to go is building it yourself; however, for those who ARENT computers techies, you may just want to shop around and see if any computer stores etc happen to have a good deal on what you want. My estimate for a computer like that is gonna be around $1,000. It's a bit pricey, but wonderful once you get it.
Another option (which I suggest) is to go to www.dell.com and build your own computer--you can customize it any way you want!

(btw: get a computer that comes with Windows XP operating system with the ability to upgrade to Windows Vista later on...it's still a working progress!)

oh and a MAC is good but if you want to run games on it, most of them are not compatible....unfortunately Windows is basically your only option there)

The Alienware CPU is a great gaming machine, but fairly expensive. I think I saw some on Tiger Direct. com for a reasonable price.

www.apple.com/getamac - Great systems that you can run any operating system on. Best hardware for your buck if you really look at the specs. (IE. screen resolution) and actually speed of the main board (not just the CPU). You may just like the mac OS, but you can run windows, Linux, solaris or whatever if you do not want to learn anything new. (and by run it i meen run it naively) no vitalization.
