I'm having trouble with the water pressure in my refrigerator's water dispenser. I've cleaned all the water lines, yet the pressure is still low. The trouble shooting guide said the low pressure could be caused by a reverse osmosis system. I've just purchased the house, and wasn't aware of any such system. What is it and how to I tell if I have one. (I have city water, not well water.)

I have replaced the filter in the fridge and the water lines all appear to be open. I've cleared them with compressed air.

Follow the water line to the valve on the house plumbing. A lot of install kit come with a self tapping water valve. When put on copper pipes it will puncture the pipe with a pin that is built into the saddle valve. The puncture is made by simply closing the valve then reopening to let the water flow. The problem is the hole can clog very easily since it is so small. My advise would be to shut the valve down and move the water line to a new valve. If you can find one that is not self tapping that would be best and most trouble free. Shut off the main water supply and take the pressure off the line by opening a faucet or turning on the washing machine (set for cold) Drill a quarter inch hole in the pipe and install the new valve. If the old valve is not installed on the bottom of the pipe you could remove it, enlarge the hole and install the new.

Reverse osmosis is recovering unusable water in a well. So, you are right! you don't have it with city water. Pressure drop is caused by a restriction. If you have changed the filter ( you didn't mention it), then you might be crimping the water line when you push the frig back in to place. If you pull it out again, disconnect the line from the frig and run water in a bucket, if you have good pressure, then the problem is in the frig.

It's basically a simple water filter , they are in fact very efficient , however require routine maintenance . you will find ( if you have a system ) the unit under the kitchen sink , or your fridge may have an integrated unit . A lot of units are commercially available and replacement elements can be purchased , however some units may require manufacturer service .

look under the sink there should be a couple little tanks that are conected to the fridge and one to the little facit, it is a water perification system that cleans drinking water. they are very good and the large bottled water companys use them so keep it, you may need to call the company that made it for service.
