Yeah as of recently he's required to have a passport however as to the flying. I saw a news article two days ago that said the airports were still letting passengers through without passports during this time of transition. They have until sometime in spring i believe before they have to be 100 percent compliant. So according to the article they were pulling patrons aside and informing them of the policy checking them out then letting them pass.

That's *very* unlikely. Schools usually assign their own student ID numbers for their students, and they wouldn't want to use something like a Social Security number for that -- the chances of the number being misused for fraud or identity theft would be too great, and could open the school up to lawsuits. If you're attending school and you don't know your student ID number, look for it on any documents the school may have mailed you, or call the registrar's office and ask them.

Not if he flys, gotta have a passport for that now. And I wouldnt bet on those two pieces of paper getting him back in on the ground either.

He should have some sort of papers showing what's going on. I wouldn't leave the country and try to come back right now that way. Why can't he just wait until he gets his papers?
