Use substitution. Have a nice box full of delightful propositions, great things you look forward to doing, something wonderful you are going to buy, people you love to be with, good things you did for people, ways to solve some of your problems, fun toys and treats you can go out and buy your dog. Probably you can think of a better box of propositions. When you find your thoughts are dragging you down, drag out the nice box and turn your back on the glum stuff.

HI.I understand. I had a real bad bunch of things go on in my life too. So, 18 years ago I had a child and decided to work on getting the bad thoughts and memories out of my head. The truth is that the easiest way is to talk it out with a support group or in therapy. When we speak them aloud it takes some of the power away from them. And if we are heard by another and not rejected we can begin to forgive ourselves for any part we had or most often, just for being there. If you can't do it face to face yet then write it all done even if you burn the paper .It helped me. We all do! Why don't you play sports--it's a great stress relief. Or maybe music if you're more interested in that--it really takes away all your pressure. If not, then maybe writing them down would really help. Maybe by writing them down you'll make them into ways in which you can become successful. Don't surround yourself with people who will remind you of your past. Stay around positive people. Don't go to places where you have bad memories so you don't start remembering them.

There are stress relief games you could try.

I didn't invent this but I have picked it up along my travels. I tend to lean toward depression most of the time.

Right before I go to bed, I try to think of 3 good things that happened to me during that day. Whether is a small thing like some one holding a door for me, or a cute girl smiling at me just passing by. Or somebody letting me back out of a parking lot.

You'll be surprised at how 3 things, will grow to 5 things etc...

Today was a slow day: But I had a dude hold the door for the elevator for me when I was carrying a huge bag of cat food. I also had a girl lend me her ice srcaper to clear my windsheild.

All in all, not a bad day. (-:

I have had bad thoughts, but a love with a girl who doesn't love me back brought me to the present again. Now all I can think about is her. I guess what I am trying to say is get a mutual obsession that won't go bad or too far. Find someone you love if you haven't already. Play new games or sports. Try to get out of ordinary life and the ordinary bad thoughts will go away.

If you don't dwell on the things you can't change, then you have more time to look for better experiences.
Professional counselors and loving friends will only listen so long and then they can help you to shut the door. Go to the door, open it and step through. It may not be better yet, but it will be different and new.

Do you believe in God?

If you have not prayed to ask Christ to come into your life, that is a good place to start. He will forgive your bad past, and give you a new life.

You will not forget your past, but if you ask him, he will bring you peace and heal your past memories. You just have to ask him.

What have you got to lose?
