Okay, this guy I know is in jail and his first court date passed and everything but he has to go back in 8 months. Does that mean he's gonna have to stay in jail for the whole 8 months?

His sister said he gotta plea for youthful offender but what does that mean? (he's 19 by the way and in Alabama)

The first thing is to know what the charge is and if he has been charged in the past. If the judge won't give bail for him the probability is that he skipped out on a prior charge. A lawyer is your best bet in this situation.

If they feel he is a flight risk they wont release him . It could also be a bail situation and the possibility that someone has to sign for him, which means take responsibility for him.

No, many people get out much sooner and are parole. It depends on the crime and his history. It's really hard to tell, though.
