Why hasn't marijuana been legalized, seriously? Wouldn't Big Tobacco benefit? Why are alcohol and tobacco legit, but marijuana sits in "decriminalized limbo"?

BPL, marijuana RARELY induces hallucination, and in fact if I hallucinated under the influence of marijuana I'd think it'd been tampered with (which, by the way, is also exceedingly rare). As for munchies, what's so negative about thinking food tastes AWESOME? I mean, if you don't want to eat it's not like you're totally unable to resist the compulsion. You just don't eat.

And David, your cousin turned HIMSELF into a braindead loser, marijuana didn't.

IT'S A MATTER OF SELF-CONTROL, PEOPLE!

As for marijuana being legalized, the thing (or one of the many many things) is that it would be a BIG threat to the oil companies. There are, surprisingly enough, quite a lot of things made from oil that could be made from hemp at less cost and less environmental impact. And guess who is in the pocket of the oil companies.

Before marijuana becomes fully legalized, it needs to become fully normalized. That takes an active effort not just from marijuana users, but from those who know that the war against marijuana (and all drugs) has been a colossal failure. It requires stepping forward and questioning the reasons behind drug laws in our country, and understanding how often drugs (including alcohol because, you know, it’s a drug) intertwine with society in potentially positive ways.

Other than an bad addiction, cigarettes don't produce the negative side effects that marijuana do (hallucinations, munchies, etc). But marijuana is no worse than alcohol. I think the US govt would benefit heavily by legalizing marijuana... think of all the tax dollars that could be generated.

although there are benifits in decriminalization including corporate benefit / profit, lots of taxes guaranteed I think perhaps it would be a bad thing..

THC, the active ingredient in marijuana slows the brain and essentially makes people lazy...smoke enough at a young age and you too can take your life on a slow train to nowhere..

For you people that are for legalization for tax purposes. How are you going to tax what I can grow in my basesment, without having to pay taxes? Are we going to legalize opium and heroin too? Cocaine, Crack, Meth, & Ice? Where should we stop? Or should all drugs be legal?
