Get a good virus/Trojan software, NOT Norton's. I'm sorry, but Norton's is not very good. Mcfee is also one that has turned me down. Sadly, no software can protect you from everything. Sometimes they do not have cures yet invented for viruses and Trojans, as new ones are produced everyday.

Next, you'll want to find the name of it. A software such as Zonealarm will work. There is a free version of it.

http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

You may want to go online and look for a site telling you what to do, step by step, or edit the question and add the name of the trojan. DO NOT try to delete it yourself, because some will crash your computer when you attempt to do that. You need to know which one it is, and what threat it has first. Then you can do the following:

Use Zone Alarm to get rid of it.

Delete it yourself.

Pay someone to do it.

Reinstall your software (Windows, Mac, etc.) and start over fresh.

Reinstalling is your best bet if its a very high risk. This should wipe it completely out. Make sure to put your things on disk or other device, as you will not get them back if you do not keep them.

-- Let me add. Zone Alarm is better if you do buy it. Free things are nice, but you will not get full protection and may have to pay much more later. It has firewall protection, far better than windows, that will block spy sites and unknown programs, with your permission of course.

Go to McAfeee Online Scan on this link http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/scan.asp

Allow it to install the ActiveX, once that is done, let it scan your computer. That is a free online virus scanner, it will scan your computer and if it finds any virus, worm, trojan horse, etc. will let you know and you can delete it.

Also try TheCleaner which is a trojan horse scanner, just for that. You can download it here http://www.moosoft.com - Install it, run it, and let it scan your entire PC, if there is a trojan horse it will find it, then you can remove it.

I hope this helped.

Where there's one, there's usually more. Most malware invites more of it's ilk over to party on your harddrive. I therefore recommend a full system cleaning. It's free, moderately easy but a bit time consuming. Just be patient and follow the steps below:

1st-Make sure to get all Windows updates DLed and installed.
1st A:Many versions of malware can, and do, hide in your system restore files. If you are sure you have a malware infection, go to Start-->Control Panel-->System and click on the System Restore tab and put a check in the 'Turn off System Restore' box. Turn it back on after you are clean.
2nd-Go to BitDefender.com for a free virus scan and cleaning. TrendMicro now charges to clean.
3rd-Download, install, and update Lavasofts's Ad-Aware (free). Do a full system scan and delete the crap it finds. Do this weekly.
4th-Download, install, and update SaferNetworking's SpyBot Search & Destroy (free). Do a full system scan and delete the crap it finds. Do this weekly
5th-download, install and update AVG Anti-spyware.(Both free and paid versions available).Do a full system scan and delete the crap it finds. Do this weekly.

If you dont have a firewall, GET ONE. ZoneAlarm has a free version.
If you dont have an anti-virus, GET ONE. Both AVG and Avast have a free version but I recommend Nod32. It's the best available and it's not very expensive (about $40 US.) Install, update and do a full system scan at least weekly.

We all hate the 'weekly' stuff but it's necessary in today's net environment. "Get it clean and keep it clean!" should be your motto.

If this doesnt fix the problem, download HiJack This from MajorGeeks.com. Go to techsupportforum.com (there are others but this a good, free site) for instructions. DO NOT use HiJack This unless you are extremely knowledgeable about Windows and it's processes. You can seriously Bork your system. Let the pro's direct you.

For a safer, more secure, easier to use not mention faster browser, try Mozilla FireFox. For an e-mail client try Mozilla Thunderbird.

Get yourself a good anti-virus program and keep it up to date.

In the meantime, you can scan your computer for free online. You will get a report with the infected files and their locations after the scan is over.

I'd recommend Kaspersky Free Virus Scan -it scans and identifies Trojans as well. It's the best.

http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

Press "Kaspersky Online Scanner" and follow the instructions. Make sure your pop-up blocker is temporarily disabled.

Go to MSconfig under Start --> Run. Follow the tabs to Services and Startup. I reccomend to DISABLE ALL ITEMS UNDER STARTUP. Then reboot your system and do a scan.

Otherwise, slave the drive up to another machine and scan it as a slave.

Use an antivirus program (may have to boot into Windows Safe Mode)

Unfortunately, some can't be removed. If that's the case, your nuclear option is to reformat your hard drive and restore from the media you should have been provided when you bought the PC.

Make sure you're AV is up to date, then run a virus scan on the entire Hard drive.

Good Luck.

make sure you're antivirus software is up-to-date and then start scanning... if it is still there try to scan the HD using another CPU or else use the system restore for windows to recover your CPU at a latter stage
