UGH, it is sooooo hard right? Those teachers.....expecting students to do their homework.....
Especially on a book that is packed FULL of similes and metaphors......
Ridiculous.....

The scar on his back through most of the book symbolizes the harships he has been through. He is once again a marked man. Also as the end of the book reveals it symbolized his connection to his brother, they were both touched by evil.
Also the healing of that same scar symbolizes his transformation, his coming of age into manhood and wisdom. He changes both internally and externally as he realizes his own potential and chooses good over evil, and the evil mark is removed from him. He becomes man enough to take on the challenge as it were.
Also the color of the other dragon in that story could represent the golden age of dragons...the dragon like the golden age, is injured beyond repare a mear memory of past glory, and like the dragon they dont really have a place in the present they are there just to teach Eragon what it is that he needs to know to start the new era.
