There were and are various games from which baseball was developed, including but far from limited to cricket and rounders.
Ken Burns did a great job of explaining this in the first episode (called the first inning) of his documentary series on baseball.
You can borrow it from any public library. It was done for PBS, and the copyright is dated 1994.

I think you mean predecessor and if that is the case, the game of baseball comes from the English game of cricket or rounders which was made from an even older game known as stool ball...
