Water, polar due to it not being linear
Ethanol polar due to it having a OH
Lamp oil non-polar due to it just being a hydrocarbon chain

polar: water, ethanol

nonpolar: lamp oil

reason? both water and ethanol has hydrooxyl group, they are weak polar solvents. However, ethanol is a ever weaker polar solvent than water, that's why, it can be used to remove some nonpolar material as a cleaning solution such as in the tape, disk cleaning fluids.

while lamp oil is pure hydrocarbon chain, there is no electro-negativity in the structure of the molecule and is a very good nonpolar solvent such as clean up chewing gum from your card seats.

water and ethanol are polar, water more so than ethanol and lamp oil is non-polar.
