Can someone please tell me what the difference between "( )", "{ }", and "[ ]" is? When used in writing... Thanks!!

There's no universal difference, as far as I know; you need to follow whatever manual of style is in use for the school or program or organization or publisher for whom the writing is being done.

In general, though, you use parentheses () for first level insertions of asides, citations, clarifications, etc. If you have to put such things within text that's already in parentheses, then you may use square brackets for the second level material. I don't recall ever seeing { } brackets in ordinary writing, though they are used in mathematical and statistical formulae.

Depends on the discipline in which you write! Check the style manual, if one is assigned.

Most generally, they're just variations on brackets.
