Though the site itself wont have any problems, it's the ads and the profiles that cause them.
--------------
'Myspace allows users to upload any content, including javascript codes'
this could be a problem for myspace browsers; many spyware sites often advertise on popular sites such as myspace and youtube. these ad profiles may include a malicious javascipt code (javascript is a commonly exploited security issue) that would cause a 'silent install' into your computer. Recently, while my sister was browsing, she encountered a "zlob" (win32 type) trojan. This, by far, is one of the hardest pieces of spyware i had to uninstall. in the end, I had to reformat my computer. Don't make my mistake.
1. NEVER CLICK THE ADS, no matter how 'colorful' they are
2. NEVER BROWSE PROFILES, there are always reports of a 'myspace worm' going around people's profiles. if it reaches you, you, and your profile will be infected.
3. USE FIREFOX ONLY, HAVE ANTI SPIES AND ANTI VIRUSES HANDY!!

No...(However:)

You can not get a virus just by going to My Space. You COULD however get a virus if you click on the banner ads that are a part of the Myspace site. This is because those banner ads will take you to an external site that is out of the jurisdiction of my space.

You could also get a virus by linking to any URL or downloading something off of the Myspace site. Keep your Anti Virus software updated at least once a week and also use quality malware removal products such as:

Adaware SE
Spybot S & D
Windows Defender (For Windows XP)
AVG Anti-Spyware.

BTW AVG also makes an excellent, free, and daily updated Anti-Virus program. You can download all of these programs at:

http://www.savemybutt.com This is a computer help site. MAKE SURE TO REMOVE ALL PREVIOUS ANTI VIRUS PROGRAMS AND OLD UPDATES RELATING TO THOSE AV PROGRAMS IF YOU GET ANY NEW AV SOFTWARE. (Such as AVG Anti-Virus) More than one AV program on your system can cause conflicts.

The other programs mentioned above should be updated immediately following installation and full scans run on each. Do this at least 1-2x a month.

Also do a complete online virus scan and malware removal at Housecall:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

This program only works in IE. High Speed Internet is recommended (DSL or Cable) but it is as through as they come. Rescan if malware is found until your system is clean. (Takes about 40 minutes)

Also, you can protect yourself from getting malware at Myspace by editing your profile options. You can DISABLE URL links at My Space by going to your profile options and putting a in each of your profile boxes.

You can also block anybody from going to Myspace by adding MySpace to your Restricted Sites Zone in IE.

You can further protect yourself by not clicking on any URL links in My Space. Let your brothers know that your computer is infected, most likely because they clicked on or downloaded a URL link that was infected at My Space. However, just browsing My Space profiles will not infect your computer.

Install, Update, and run those programs above just to make sure, and 1-2x a month thereafter. Let your brothers know what happened and that they should not click on external links or download anything from the MySpace Site. But just looking at profiles is ok.

No I even have Norton and it continually tells me of the slightest virus possiblity, never on myspace. So... a million. Get pop-up blocker 2. set up pc rules out of your brothers and 3. Get a myspace dude!

Myspace itself does not give you a virus, but most of the links that people add to it do. Get a virus scanner, avg is free, macaffee makes a free version also to disinfect. Then block myspace in your hosts file, in the browser or in the router.

Block myspace by adding it to the 'blocked sites' list in your browser.

Set a password so that only you can change the list.

This should keep your brothers off myspace..

Download, install and run: AVG anti-virus and Spybot S&D...

That will clean up the problem...

GOOD LUCK
