Smile! It can't be that bad can it?
I find that agitating when they could just ask how are you?
Is that too picky?

Very annoying. Who ever said it takes less muscles to smile was wrong. I find that it's very comfy to keep the lips set in the neutral position, which can often be taken as a frown.

When I worked at a grocery store people used to tell me that all the time. But come on, you can't be smiling all the time. You have to give your face a rest. They just caught me when I was resting.

What you do is if they work with you-you go out at luch and call work and pretend to be from the police or from their kids school and tell them their kid was arrested or broke their arm in an accident. Then they freak out and leave work and get all bent out of shape. I love payback!

If they say it because they truly care about you, I can handle it. However if someone says it without sincerity, just as lip service, it does rub me the wrong way.

OMG yes. It doesn't mean that I'm sad, if I'm not, I'm not the smiling type.
