Mostly because of superstition, few buildings in the U.S. have 13th floors. That's to say there is no rentable office space or apartments on the 13th floor.
In most buildings the 13th floor is reserved as a "mechanical room" floor. This is where air conditioning, fire sprinklers and other equipment is typically housed.
Then no-one has to worry about having an office or an apartment on the "13th" floor.

The main floor could be "G" and then the floors are numbered 1 - 105 starting at the second floor

There is a difference between stories and floor numbers. If the bottom floor is numbered 1, in this case, the top floor would be number 106

Technically it would have 104 but because of superstitions architects and construction crews tend to skip over 13 and go from there.
