Because Labor Day "signals" the end of Summer and the coming of Autumn. White is considered a color appropriate for Spring and mainly Summer, ergo, it is inappropriate after Labor Day.

Because of the Hosh Posh Fashion Mish Mosh. If you live in high society circles then wearing white is the least of your problems. You will be the talk of tinsel town if you don't follow all the rules. However the average world of the average person wouldn't even notice what color you were wearing so don't lose any sleep over it. I wear whatever I want to wear whenever I want to wear it.

It's supposed to be a spring/summer color. Although there is "winter" white. I say to heck with all of that crap!! Wear whatever color you want to wear.

It's because you would blend in with the snow and look invisible. The rule isn't really held anymore, so don't worry about it.
