Valentine's day is for people who are IN love.
So I suspect no actual Valentine's day card is appropriate. Go look in "Mother's Day" instead.

Oh, and flowers rarely go astray.

If you two are close, which you must be if you want to get her a v-day present, give her a day of just you two doing chick stuff.

Hire some movies, buy some face masks and/or nail polish and some movie munchies and just have a bonding day together. You could also take her shopping and go to the movies, or to lunch at a nice restaurant.

If you want to buy her a present, a box of chocolates and a good book are always winners with my mum.
