well ,this is for sure that i believe if you find something wrong on tests ,you should abort after confirmation.
iam afraid of amnio b cause of the risk of miscarriages and also i want to have one coz i have a history of miscarriges in first trimester.otherwise i have no family history nothing.....if i had no history of miscarriages i would have gone for amnio for sure.

First, ask yourself....if there is something wrong with the baby, what will I do? If your answer is have the baby anyway, then the amnio really has don't nothing for you but give you something to worry about until the end of the pregnancy. If your answer is to terminate the pregnancy, meaning you do not want a baby that is genetically imperfect, then you need to have the amnio.

Just because one baby is fine doesn't mean the other one will automatically be fine. You mentioned that you would like to have the peace of mind that the amnio brings. I've assisted with many amnios, and the risk of miscarriage is pretty low. It's a procedure that is a bit painful, but quick, and the results are accurate.

Get more information from your doctor. Have him/her explain the risks and benefits. You need to make an informed decision.

I know your afraid, but it's a necessary test. Because what you have to understand is that a female is born with all the eggs she will fertilize or not fertilize for the rest of her life. So since you're pregnant at 35 that means that egg that was fertilized was a 35 year old egg. And if you're in the range where your'e a young teen or a woman in her mid 30's and up, there's a high risk for having mentally retarded children or other complications. My step mother had my brother when she was almost 50 and he had complications like acid reflux and he was on breathing treatments the first year of his life. so that amnio is important to detect any possible complications so if you do pop up with a problem that a child may be mentally retarded and you don't want to continue the pregnancy, it won't be a surprise. But really any test that they give you is going to be invasive like a chorionic villi sampling where they take a piece of the placenta. Unfortunately there's no way around it unless you just refuse to get the tests... But if you want to have a more smoother pregnancy yo u're gonna have to go through some discomfort... good luck with that and hang in there.

Do you want to know my personal opinion? Don't do it. Amnios do put you at risk for hurting your baby. The minimally invasive test (blood work) ins't all true and to be honest with you, I don't even get some of that done (AFP test I think is like old wives tales to diagnose sex of the baby). The real question for you is, if there's something wrong with your baby found on amnio (which isn't always true) will it change anything for you? I didn't care to have the tests done because it didn't matter to me. My child would be loved and cared for no matter who she or he was born.

i would wait and see what the test results say. if they do find something, say on the triple marker test, you will be well past the miscarriage time frame. on the plus side, if you don't want to have it at all, don't. especially if you have a history of miscarriage. the amount of mother having babies between the ages of 35-39 is up 42% from previous years.

Don't do the test. My aunt who is over 35, and carrying twin girls had the test done. With in a couple of days she was down to one baby. Please don't do it. I am currently preg. with my second. I bypassed that test both times. I will love my children reguardless of handicaps. But doctor assured me from ultrasound that everything is fine. Good luck to you.
