The difference shows what you concentrated in, and most likely what you did your thesis on too. "Pure Math" is pretty much the field of number theory. "Applied Math" deals more with engineering problems. They can both include very advanced topics though.

That's not to say that somebody getting a pure math degree won't end up taking any "applied" classes, or vice versa. But it's probably a definite indication on what you did your thesis on.

I myself got a Master's in applied math in '98. I took a lot of classes that dealt with engineering problems, which mostly included optimization ("how do you maximize or minimize these values in these different systems"), and also numerical analysis which deals with computer algorithms for approximating solutions of really complex variables. I ended up doing an optimization problem for my thesis. I still had to take a couple of "pure math" classes though, like set theory (which I really struggled through).

As for which is best for you, I think you should go with whatever you find most interesting. An MS in applied math will probably get you more job opportunities, but these days people with math degrees are largely hired for ability rather than knowledge. So again, I'd say just go with the one that has more of the classes you like. Good luck on your studies!

by using fact genuine international archives amassing is noticeably much continually improper, the utility of organic arithmetic will provide improper solutions. rubbish in, rubbish out. the thought-approximately 0 does not reason Math to be improper. Irrational numbers, unfavorable numbers and imaginary numbers alongside with time-honored integers are all representations of actuality, however the organic arithmetic isn't improper. that is in basic terms the utility of the math this is improper with is technological information. that is not to declare that technological information is ignorant of those flaws, yet regardless of the presence of flaws in length, that is nevertheless be suited we can do, and it facilitates us to realize issues that we could no longer gain in any opposite direction. 0 may well be accurately represented in genuine existence. I somewhat have 0 money in my wallet. There are 0 corvettes in my driveway. I somewhat have 0 sparkling outfits to positioned on. 0 potential and count additionally exists, and can desire to exist between the encreadably small debris interior issues. in any different case each little thing could have an infinate density. EM radiation is composed of photons, that are packets of potential. in case you look on the nighttime sky, there's a mild (approximately 3 dgreess kelvin) temperature everywhere we glance, yet that temperature is radiated out interior the form of photons. those photons have gaps between them the place there is not any count or potential. i don't have self belief that something has been cooled to precisely absolute 0, and that is achieveable that no longer something can, yet that does no longer propose that 0 does not characterize a very genuine thought.

pure maths deals with the properties of maths, concentration on developing mathematical theorems, patterns. Basically you help to discover math's secrets

applied maths deals with application. you use known maths to work on projects dealing with things such as waves, sound etc. it touches quite a bit on engineering.
