If not old magazines, what the hell can it be refering to? I think it is pretty insensitive to be so vague.

woman wants to control what you know about her. it's ok. Permit her to have secrets. Just tell her that you are there to listen to anything she wants to tell you about herself. And Tell her that she doesn't have to tell you anything about herself, that she doesn't want to tell you. And tell her that you do not commit yourself to someone you don't even know.

I think you need to ask her what her 'issues' are. She could have some serious things going on that would cause problems in your relationship.
If she refuses to tell you, refuse to get serious.
