My freind on msn has a lump in her genital region, she says it feels the size of a tennis ball and is red with a purple bit and a black dot that may be a bite of some sort, she says its very hard to touch and is painful, so painful it brings her to tears. it has no puss or dis-charge coming from it.

shes going to the doctors tommorow, but in the meantime anyone know what it could be, of how to treat it in the mean time,

its also not an std, as shes still a virgin.

Thanks in advance.

It could be a cyst, the redness I would think would be from inflammation. It may also just be an ingrown hair, however, if you applied a hot washcloth to the area, it would most likely pop and drain. I would leave it alone until the doc can take a look, you don't want to cause it to become infected. Good luck.

Hi - I had this last summer, had to get my wotsit out for 4 different nurses as it kept swelling up and up! Its a Bartholian cyst, present in the labia, sometimes gets infected and swells up. Mine was caused by a blocked hair follicle for shaving. I had to have mine .... actually Im not going to scare you, lets just say it didnt go down with the antibiotics they gave me. Poor girl, I feel her pain! To help, tell her to put a hot flannel over it for a few mins, it draws the toxins to the top and encourages the area to fight the infection. If you need further info, give me a shout. Hugs, Bex x

I had one a few years ago. i thought i was growing testicles. I can sympathise with your friend. It was agony. I had to have it operated on. this is where they open the lump and drain it. They have to leave the wound open then pack it daily with gauze. It should be left to heal from the inside out. Takes a while, but that way it will not return as they take the gland also. I hope its sorted soon. Ask Dr to check for diabetes too, as that turned out to be a factor for mine.

Size of a tennis ball and she has done nothing till now?
I could not be sure about this and neither can anyone else I would suspect it is a swollen Bartholyns gland. It is not uncommon for these to balloon out and become quite sore.
Bartholyns glands secrete the pre entry lubrication to the vagina.
when they become blocked they swell up and become quite painfu
A gynocologist needs to see this and treat it ASAPl

Its definitely something she needs to get seen as soon as possible. Sounds like it could be a bartholins cyst. The bartholins glands are the ones that are responsible for naturally lubricating the vagina and surrounding area to keep it clean as well as sex related reasons. If one of these glands becomes blocked/infected it can cause a really painful swelling but is easily treated. wish her luck .

two things it could possibly be,if she shaves in her vaginal area it could be an in grown hair that needs to be opened and drained by the doctor.Or it's a bartholyn cyst which is a build up of bacteria and can cause and infection. The best thing for her to do until tomm. is take warm compress's and put them on the lump until her appt. Also take some motrin for the pain.

If she has her bikini line waxed or if she shaves it it could be an ingrown hair (although tennis ball size sounds a tad on the large side)

Even if there was a doctor here, you friend could not be diagnosed without first being examined.

The real question is why did your friend wait to see a doctor?

I have had many of what your explaining. Mine will swell up to the size of a golf ball sometimes smaller, and it's somewhat hard and painfull as hell.. It's just a boil. They tend to run in your family. My mom had them very bad also. Mine just go away. There is some that need to be treated because it can get very painfull.

It may be a boil, especially if it's near a hair follicle. They can be really painful. Don't listen to the jerk above. Most cancerous things are not painful. Pod I mean.
