Australia is generally considered a continent by most geographers. This question was asked very recently and I gave some geological reasons for this there.
In the past, it was considered an island by geographers, but that status has changed since.
"Oceana" is the term for the cultural region which does include NZ and the Pacific Islands. This is not the same as a continent, though I know that this is a point of contention. Perhaps a pointless point (who really cares what we label something), but, hey, that's why people are in this forum...

Australia is an island and continent. New Zealand is a country and consisted of 2 ilsand Noth and South. Together with the islands in the Pacific are known as Oceania!

I have to agree with Ryan, though I've never heard of Australia/New Zealand/etc. referred to anything other than the continent of Australia, Oceania being a general term. But then, heck, what do I know, I went to public school!
