One of my old teachers was telling me of this highschool in the U.S. that is 30,000 dollar tuition a year. School starts around 8...you come whenever, leave whenever, basically do whatever. The students decide what lectures they want to listen to. Yet with the lack of structure, 99% of its graduates go to Ivy League universities. He said he forgot the name...does anyone know? It doesn't have to be THE specific one, just any would do. Of course I don't want to attend..just wondering how no structure could possibly work.

I remember that article. Was on Time or Newsweek or something like that.

I guess the concept sounds shocking. However, look into Montessori schools. My sister went to one. Concept is similar to what that high school has.

No one can force someone to come on time, or to listen. So if someone is getting 30K a year to do what is obvious to many people already, well let the money come!

My high school was like this - it was a private school. But really, only Seniors were allowed to leave campus during the day. In my estimation, we were paying for great teachers, a safe place to learn, and serious students. Students often are serious, when their parents are paying college prices for them to attend. And when all the students are serious about learning - the entire environment is absolutely enlightened!
