what is it's purpose?

it does not prouce greater power, right?

is it in the acceleration?

or fuel consumption?

Hi,

You can get more air and fuel into the engine and make more power. Of course you have to get the exhaust out so the out flow from the engine needs to be less restrictive. You see more than two valves per cylinder as well all to increase volumetric efficiency of the engine. You can realize a slight fuel ecomomy improvement but it is usually negated by the increase in power.

Better fuel distribution to the cylinders. Usually for a high performance engines. As in Tri Power on the early GTOs.

On a muscle car dual carbs are great because the front primary barrels are always working..... so 4 out of 8 barrels are working, then when you stomp on the pedal the other 4 kick in, now 8 barrels.... and yes it is for power and speed, you will of course use for gas.

When properly tuned and adjusted, two carbs provide more air and more fuel (same as above) resulting in more power. Most engines run just fine on one correctly adjusted carb. It gets difficult to keep both carbs synchronized with each other.

Yes just find a intake from a 4bbl donor engine. The 390 to me is a rather large engine to come equipped with a 2bbl.I'm sure a bigger 4bbl will flow what the 390 needs.

As stated above....MORE horsepower can be generated. Air that is forced into the engine (supercharged) should/must be matched with more fuel.

The down side is that the engine no longer 'sips' fuel -- IT GULPS IT.

due to more fuel and more air you get more power by acceleration.Of course, there´s higher fuel consumption
