...Dave Pelzers books (a child called it, the lost boy, a man named dave). I am halfway through the second one and they are so unbelievebly heart wrenching and inspiring too. I can't believe he went through so much, how did you feel about his ordeal? If you haven't read them I recommend them!!!

maybe your just a little cynical, his work has caused controversy but i think the fact so many people backed up what he said means he was not making these things up. literature is not able to provoke quite as many emotions as a real life story of abuse and cruelty either.

don't believe the hype!

Pelzer confessed a couple of years ago to being economical with the truth and ever exaggerating some of the things that happened to him.

They truly are shockingly awful books, and are terribly written. I personally think it should be made a crime to be caught reading one. If you enjoy reading, TRY LITERATURE

I've read all 3 of them. I found them gut-wrenching and inspirational at the same time. As for the controversy, I don't put too much faith in it, simply because of this: By it's very nature, literature is meant to be embellished a bit. Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt in my mind that he went through the things he said he did, but at the same time, I'm sure his editors and publishers encouraged him to "spice it up a bit" in order to appeal to a greater spectrum of readers. Consider also: if you were in his shoes, would you exagerate some details in order to fill space and keep even worse, more private things to yourself? I'm certain you would. I wouldn't put them in the same catagory as the great works of literature, but they were good for what they were.

i have read all 3 of the books.i agree that they are heart wrenching with all the detail.but ultimately dave pelzer shows that no matter what you go through you come out the other side.however i find it hard t see where he gets his forgiving attitude from towards his mother.

i read the first book and i cried at his mothers treatment towards him.
I then went on to read the second book and i felt sad.
Then when i discovered another 2 books i wondered if he was kicking the **** out of it? Surely after the success of his first books he had something a little lighter to write about.
this is my opinion though.

Read them all years ago when first published!
yes, very harrowing, hard to believe, but read his brother's book (the one that always got him into trouble) after, and when Dave left home, he became his mothers target!
History repeated itself!

I've always thought there was something a bit creepy and voyeuristic about people who can't get enough of reading these detailed accounts of alleged abuse...
