no.. thunder can appear to, if you can't see the lightning.

things can obstruct and block the light from you much more than sound.
It's like where theres smoke theres a flame though theres always thunder when theres lightning and visa versa

It's not uncommon to hear thunder and see no lightning (because its behind a cloud or mountain or building.. But it is I think impossible to see lightning and not hear its thunder clap.

It is impossible to have thunder with out lightning.
Do not listen to Mark W.
A thunder storm is when there is a lot of lightning causing thunder.
Alighning storm is when the lightning stays with in the clouds and does not hit the earth.

Thunder is the result of the air being superheated by lightning. If you hear thunder, there is always lightning.

Yes/ thunder is just a noise not a sound! haven't you ever heard of a thunder storm and a lightning storm?
