I agree that you just need to keep practicing again and again and again. It's much easier for me to paint hands than to draw them. But I get lazy.

For additional tips that might help you wrap your head around it better....

The best way to learn how to draw anything is to just go ahead and draw it from life. You have two (hopefully)perfectly good models of hands right at the ends of your arms.Any book would only give you pictures to copy from anyway.Just keep drawing from life and eventually you'll get it right.Everything can be broken down into basic shapes. From there just try to see how those shapes fit together. It's a cake walk after that.Draw what you see and not what you know.Hope this helped.

My daughter is an artist, and was having a bit of a problem with her hands. She just went to a Barnes and Noble Bookstore in the Art section and found several books about drawing hands. She looked at all of them and picked the one that suited her and purchased that. She now draws beautiful hands and feet also. Feet are also hard to draw.

My favorite and the one that got me "unstuck"
is THE BOOK OF A HUNDRED HANDS...
George B. Bridgman ISBN 0-486-22709-X
I bought the Dover edition for about $8.00
This book was first printed in 1920
GOOD LUCK

There is a beginner tutorial on hands and arms, especially getting the proportions right, here:

There's detailed pictures in the last section showing different positions, all with proportions marked.
