i saw it in spanish and i think the title was "the (and one word)". there were just two actors, they are very famous but i cannot remember who they are, i think one may be Michael Caine. The film is about shifting of power because of the killing of one of the character´s wife or something like that. The whole film takes place in a castle or mansion and it is very theatrical. I cannot find anything about this film here in Spain and no one seems to know about it (dont you have the feeling that sometimes you must have been the only one to have seen a movie?)

At first I was thinking Sleuth, like the majority. But it also sounds very much like Deathtrap, starring Olivier (i think) and Christopher Reeve. A really fun move with a lot of twists. Staged much like a play. Dyan Cannon may have played the woman.
