you know a couple of things and ultimately want the equation in the form of:

y = mx +b

Since the Y-Intercept is 4 we know that when x=0, y = 4...so:

y=mx+4.

We also know that when y=0, x = 6....so:

0=6m+4

-4/6=m

therefore:

y= -4/6x + 4

Equation is, in y-intercept form, y=-2/3x+4.Think about it. To reach x=6 from y=4, you must go down 4 and right 6, so the slope is 4/6, or 2/3.

you have two points (6,0) and (0,4), find slope (4-0)/(0-6), turns out to be -2/3. then just put into formula to get y=-2/3x+4
