I had a worksheet from school, and in it I am sappose to find a mistake in a diagram and then create a new diagram with the old one corrected. For example, the sentence is : The fire cast strange shadows across the room. In the diagram, "the" belongs to fire, " across the room" belongs to cast, and "strange " belongs to shadows. I think there's something wrong with "accross the room"..... what do you think? HELP ME OUT HERE!

"across the room"... is an adverb phrase.... specifically, it is an adverb of place because it tells where the action occurred. All adverb phrases belong under the verb in a diagram. You are correct... " across the room" belongs under " cast".
