What do you want to ask / tell your barista?

I work as a barista and am always trying to find new ways to improve the cafe experience for my customers. What would you really like to see improved at your local coffee shop?

My wants are small - I order what I want, typically in English. Some of the time the baristas smile and say sure or translate the call. Most of the time they start asking me questions that are not designed to give me a better product, but rather trying to get me to conform to their way of calling beverages.

I ordered a medium mild coffee.
They ask "Do you want a Tall or a..." or "Do you want the French Roast Guyanna Blend or the Daybreak Costa Rican Supreme?"

Seriously, there are three sizes, I want the one in the middle and don't want to have to figure out what you call it here as compared to the guys down the street or two blocks over...or in New York as I travel a great deal.

Additionally, you have a dark roast and a mild roast - I want the mild roast not a geography lesson. If I am buying beans, I care where they came from, how they were grown, etc. as there are hundreds of choices, but in the AM I have two - dark or mild whatever you chose for me that day.

I used to manage a restaurant, bartend and wait tables, it is not that I do not respect what you do. Your cappuccinos are frothier than I ever got mine, your attention to proportions and brewing methods make better product than America has seen ever. But the inability to understand that the menus are confusing, the language is highly variable from one place to another and the number of questions involved in an order is akin to a tax audit....

What I want is for baristas to respect our collective inability to learn their particular system and language (and for customers to be curtious, know generally what they want - language barriers aside - and to have their money ready)
