Not if this is a fraction. You'd reduce the -12 and 8 to -3 and 2; the x's would cross each other out, and 2 of the y's on top cross out the two y's on the bottpm leaving -3y^2 over 2

Answer: -3y^2 / 2

12 and 8 are both divisible by 4
12/4 = 3 and 8/4 = 2

Cancel the x's: x/x = 1

Subtract the exponents on the y's: y^4 / y^2 = y^(4-2) = y^2
