Its the "r". If Gavin was Garvin it would be yuck. Gavin sounds cute to me, kinda new and trendy. And I can picture a wealthy man with that name. Marvin, Herman and Gilbert sound like characters from an old TV sitcom like Leave It to Beaver.

Every time I hear the name Marvin, I think of the, "Marvin the Martian" But really, I don't know to many Gavin's myself. I have heard the name though, and I really like it. Herman, and Gilbert. Well, I think of Gilbert Godfrey, and Herman, Herman Munster.
When I was in the process of naming my daughter, I crossed out many names that had a "past" to them. But you don't know of many girls named Maycee.

Some of the older names are coming back. I like Henry for a little boy. A form of Gavin that I really love is Gavino, (Hispanic) but I'm not sure an American kid would appreciate that.
